Default Weightloss tips! - 07-Feb-2010, 11:31 PM

Assalamu alikom all....

Well the Biggest Loser is upon us again and there are many tips they share on the show for losing weight.....for instance on Friday's episode they explained how a busy person can lose weight in only a ten minute workout....it's called the on/off routine where you exercise intensely for say 30 sec and then exercise moderately for the next 30 sec, then intensely for 30 sec and so on and so forth until you have completed the ten mins. They also said the mediterranean diet was the best to follow because they eat a lot of vegies and legumes, little red meat and use olive oil as the main fat source.

I thought others on the forum might like to share their successful tips on diet and exercise and what has worked for them....

note that a good diet does not involve stuffing yourself stupid at lebo restaurants just because they are mediterranean.

the type of exercise you described is called something like variable intensity or interval training.

its interval training akhi and it works i can drop 10 kg
in 4 to 6 week just by using that training but i need motvation ...

I agree...those retaurants don't even serve healthy lebo food besides the hommos and tabouli...it's all laden with lots of saturated fat! Unfortunately many ppl in leb have high blood pressure, diabetes and cholesterol because they have deviated from the healthy mediterranean diet and adopted animal fat, lots of red meat, highly processed food and junk food. Their idea of eating fish is deep fried served with salty chips and loads of tomato sauce!

Yeah, look up HIIT (high intensity interval training). It makes you want to die.

How about some intense stuff like martial arts fitness classes: Body Combat or Kickboxing Workouts?

You get a workout and learn some self defense moves at the same time

Btw drinks LOTS of water....2lt per day!

ive been eating coconut oil,,, apparantly its afat burning fat, and supposed to give u energy

I've found that if u exercise about 3 times a week and watch the food u eat u can lose weight.

as well putting on weight to gain body mass, is as difficult as losing it weight.

salam, to all those in disress. Do what you enjoy(pyhsical activity) for at least 30min a day. Gradually build up to an hour. Eat healthy always (till you're satisfied! NOT STUFFED!!!).Drink 2lt of water. THINK POSITIVELY!!!! Ask ALLAHS help, Believe in yourself. If the biggest lossers can do it so can you. (At your own pace.) Inshallah you will do it!!!

All [mod] should consider walking at least 1 hour everyday... eat steamed veges only and take no sugar in their diet...

salam. The point is to do something you you can stick to...weight loss should be a way of life.NOT a diet! If you're going to eat only steamed vegies...you're going to HATE steamed vegies very fast, trust me...then you"ll feel helpless...binge again....put more weight on. Make a healthy salad, eat that before your meal. Your stomach wont need as much then...to feel satisfied!!!! THINK POSITIVE!!!!!

Body Combat and Body Pump are AMAZING for cardiovascular fitness and increased muscle tone.

I already imparted all my weightloss tips, particularly the medically based ones, over in the Sister's Section. Maybe the sisters can look back in there inshaAllah.

Assalaamu 'Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakaatuh

1. Seek assistance from Allah and purify your intentions. Aim to get fit and lsoe that extra fat for good reasons.

2. Set yourself a goal and make sure you do all that you can to achieve it.

3. Be honest with yourself. Before you look for an excuse or something to blame for the condition of your body, ask yourself if you are truly working hard enough and doing all that you can to achieve your goal.

4. Increase your cardio

5. Remember that more energy will be used by your body to maintain more muscle mass. As such, make sure you also include heavy weight training, etc.

6. Stop eating too much junk and fix up your diet

7. Adhere to the Sunnah with regard to eating

8. Try to have smaller meals spaced throughout the day, instead of one or two large meals. This will, Allah willing, stop the body from going into a starvation mode whereby it holds onto every bit of energy it can by being more efficient at storing fat.

9. Work hard and don't be lazy.

10. When it gets difficult and things feel a bit unbearable, seek assistance and help from Allah and know that HE (Subhanahu wa Ta'aala) can change your scenario toward ease.

I have a few more tips. Insha-Allah i'll try to write more as they come to mind.
